Program is currently transitioning from Family Service Centers to Suncoast.

The mission of Childnet is to preserve and maintain the family unit when parents or caregivers are physically or emotionally incapacitated and to prevent children from being placed into substitute care. The program serves families with children under the age of eighteen who are living in their home. Families must be experiencing situational or prolonged stress that puts children at risk for abuse and or neglect. The program’s goals are to prevent a verified maltreatment report during program participation and for 6 months after successful discharge and to have the adults accomplish their home management service goals and parenting service goals by program completion. Family Support Workers provide weekly in home education on such topics as parenting, discipline, organization, safety, growth and development, nutrition and budgeting. Families are linked with other community services and transportation is available. For disabled parents and families of high risk infants light housekeeping shopping childcare and meal preparation is offered. Service is provided in the participant's home or a mutually agreed upon location. A Family Advocate provides individual and family counseling and family support groups.  The program office is in St. Petersburg. The program capacity is 90-95 families at any given time. Service time averages 6 months. The program addresses the Strategic Plan’s emphasis on measurable outcomes in the areas of violence and the use of asset or strength based approaches. The program supports JWB’s Strategic Plan goal of strengthening the family unit and increasing ease of access through neighborhood service delivery.
