Adolescent Residential Center (ARC) is a full-time 24-hour treatment program serving males and females between the ages of 12 to 17 who have a significant history of substance abuse leading to family, school, and/or legal problems.
Adolescents receive comprehensive psychosocial, nursing and psychiatric assessments, on-site educational services through the Pinellas County Dropout Prevention program, daily group therapy, individual and family therapy, linkage with AA and NA meetings, family support groups, recreation therapy, a behavior management program, life skills training, social skills education, daily nursing care, random drug testing, opportunities for community service and ongoing medication management if needed.
The multi-disciplinary treatment team, which includes the clients as part of the team, works to develop and review the treatment plans, determine progress and if there is a need to address new issues, and help the client reach his or her goals.
The average length of stay is four months, based on individual need. An aftercare program is available for youths who successfully complete the program. Aftercare services include group and individual counseling, random drug screening and case management. Staff members are comprised of master’s level therapists, bachelor’s level counselors, RN’s, behavior technicians and a consulting psychiatrist. The JWB Children’s Services Council of Pinellas County, the Department of Children and Families SunCoast Region/Central Florida Behavior Health Network, Pinellas County (Juvenile Drug Court), client fees and other third parties fund services.
