Children need to be healthy to attend school and learn.  The School Health Services Cluster provides prevention, intervention and emergency-based health services every day to children at five Pinellas County schools:  Northeast High School, Meadowlawn Middle School, Sexton Elementary School, Lealman Intermediate School and Clearwater Intermediate School.  These schools were selected due to a number of factors including family income, student risk-taking behavior and high incidents of chronic health problems.  Each school has the services of a Certified Nurse's Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse and each school offers the services of a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  Northeast High School and Meadowlawn Middle School have the additional services of a Physician or Advanced Nurse Practitioner, including pregnancy or STD testing, physical exams, diabetes education and nutritional counseling.  The health service staff collaborates with parents, teachers, mental-health staff and other health care providers to develop health care plans and address health problems identified through health screenings and assesments.
