The mission of the Medical Foster Care Program is to provide quality medical, nursing and family care while working toward a safe and permanent home for each child, and to empower parents to be appropriate caregivers through education, communication and the provision of needed services. The program serves any child from birth to age 21 who has a complex medical condition requiring 24 hours of continual medical nursing health supervision. The program’s strategy is to achieve the goals as outlined in the Plan of Care to improve/stabilize the child’s medical condition and to reduce hospital in-patient admission, episodes for acute illness or injury. Medical foster care homes are located throughout the county. Program offices are located in Pinellas Park. The program capacity is 43 children and 43 adults at any given time. The average length of service is 15 years.
