Program is currently transitioning from Family Service Centers to Sunccoast

The mission of the Sexual Assault Family Empowerment program is twofold: to empower families to heal from sexual violence and to help our community prevent this trauma. The program provides services to any child victim (toddler through 17) of sexual assault as well as to his/her family members. The program also provides treatment for adult survivors of incest, rape survivors 12 years of age and older, and secondary rape survivors.   The Child Victim Services goals are to reduce trauma symptoms of youth. The Rape Crisis Intervention Services’ goals are to increase the use of coping techniques to deal with trauma symptoms. The SPEAK Caregivers’ Group goals are to increase knowledge of parenting a sexually abused child.  The Adult Survivors Group goals are to implement new coping strategies.  Sexual Assault Services provides comprehensive crisis intervention counseling and ongoing counseling for victims of sexual assault and their families. Services are provided at the office sites in Clearwater and St. Petersburg as well as the Sanderlin Community Center in St. Petersburg. Groups are also provided by contract at the Boley Residence in St. Petersburg and at the PEMHS PACES Program in Largo. The annual capacity is 400 primary youth and 90 primary adults a year. The average length of service is 6 months. The program supports JWB’s Strategic Plan emphasis on community impacts and measurable outcomes in the areas of sexuality and violence, and the use of asset or strength-based approaches.
