Youth Are The Leaders of Today–Not Tomorrow.
The mission of the Youth Leadership Committee (YLC) is to amplify the voice of the youth in Pinellas County through youth leadership development, advocacy, and the implementation of opportunities for their peers that will encourage youth to become effective leaders while shaping the future for a prosperous community.
The principal role of YLC members is to serve as advisors to the Juvenile Welfare Board by informing leaders of ways that they can better address teen issues.
Opportunities:
- Help plan events in the community for youth.
- Amplify youth voice throughout Pinellas County.
- Promote youth community involvement and volunteerism.
- Communicate concerns regarding community issues that affect teens.
Eligibility:
- Live in Pinellas County.
- Currently in 9th – 12th grade.
- Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA.
- Overall satisfactory conduct record at school.
Expectations:
- Attend regular monthly committee meetings and attend planned events in the community.
- During virtual meetings, have cameras on and actively participate in group discussions.
- Participate in additional activities through the year as available.
- Maintain communication with YLC leader.
Work & Impact:
- Planned and executed projects and events in the community: Teen Food Project, Youth Conference
- Completed a Food Box Project and Cooking Class Video
- Designed T-shirts
- Volunteered at JWB events in the community
- Provided JWB with feedback on concerns of youth in Pinellas County
